Great Fun, much more so than NWN-1 December 4, 2008 Markw (Belgium) NWN-2 is one of the few (computer) ROLE-playing games. It does matter what do do and say, You meet a large number of NPC's (and can change your party without levelling penalties) to have the most interaction. Finally something else than just a dungeon-crawl, pack-rat everything and get to level 100 ASAP. Great FUN instead. There are only two elements which make the game a bit less playable (and cost one star) - Load times, very very slow - You cannot interrupt conversation cut scenes Since a big part of the game is about interacting with the NPS's you can accidentally revisit an old topic and it is impossible to break out of it. I have experienced no noticeable bugs on the october 2008 version (1.21)
It's not the original, but it's still great December 1, 2008 J. Beagon (Manchester, UK) 3 stars is a ludicrous overall rating for this game. The campaign far outstrips any of the originals in terms of far better NPCs, a more involving storyline rather than simply "Find 4 items of X and return for next chapter", and a much improved visual experience. True, the downside of the visual upgrades include a ridiculous complication of the toolset, effectively eliminating the casual mod maker, and it does make the game rather system intensive for what it is. Nevertheless, the fact that your particular computer can't handle the game isn't a devastatingly bad point against it; you must have realised now that the 'Digital Age' involves keeping up with developments and upgrades. Stop moaning and go buy yourself a better graphics card or processor if it's required. Heck, if your PC can't run this, then you have practically no hope for any future games being released. The camera does take some getting used to after the original game, but it's bearable, and it's well worth buying this game just in order to be able to play the two frankly superb expansion packs. Mask of the Betrayer in particular is a monumental achievement.
So, to sum up... October 5, 2008 Daggsy (England) I'm not going to go into too much detail here, because it's mostly to be found in the other reviews. But basically, this is a great game with most of the character and charm of forgotten realms games that have came before, but is rendered almost unplayable by the shoddy cameras, the lack of control, the moronic AI and many glitches that include the game refusing to start if it doesn't detect 128MB of graphics memory (which it often doesn't detect even if you do have it). The patches that were released do very little to improve on these, but the Mask of the Betrayer expansion pack fixes these much as a patch would be expected to and turns the game into something entirely more playable, into something that fans of the series should have been given in the first place. In other words, if you do decide to buy this game, don't buy it without the Mask of the Betrayer expansion pack or it could well put you off the thing for life. Out of the box... it just doesn't work. It's that simple.
Slow Starter *very mild spoiler* October 1, 2008 Nicholas Connolly (Dundee) I am now approaching the end of Neverwinter Nights 2 about two years after I bought it. Initially it wasn't great but the MOTB expansion improved the original game and made it playable. The initial quests are still a bit of a chore and the camera is still duff, but get a little further in and it takes off. Lots of work and love has gone into this game and I have had lots of fun playing it. It is true that I don't feel I have a lot of control during combat (I tend to just buff the fighters and let them get on with it, and control one of the mages) but this hasn't spoilt my enjoyment. I mean you get to own a castle. Great!
This game is pants! May 31, 2008 Batman 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
This game is utter rubbish. Where the hell did they get the idea to change the way the graphics worked? Graphics are rubbish, gameplay is non existant. Do not buy this game
